What is a Home Cinema Personal Computer (HCPC)?
Home Cinema Personal computer (HCPC) is derived from the US term Home Theatre Personal Computer (HTPC) and is generally used to describe a PC that has been geared towards Audio Visual use rather than general purpose use.
PC displays have always offered high resolution progressive scan images far better than any television can offer and with the advent of better, more affordable projectors it's possible to generate images easily in excess of 6 feet across with almost film like quality. Coupled with improvements in audio quality it's now possible to build systems with true audiophile quality.
Ever increasing amounts of affordable disk storage allow the easy creation of huge media jukeboxes with music, video and still photo's conveniently stored in a single location. With the continued drive to all things digital you can rest assured that the HCPC is the best heart for your 21st century AV system.
Most modern PC's today are capable of many of the individual characteristics of a HCPC although generally fall short in other areas. Aesthetics, fan noise and all those trailing keyboard and mouse wires usually rule them out from being practical solutions.
Fortunately, with careful component selection and set up it is possible to have the quiet, stylish, high performance PC's optimised for audio visual use with all remote control functionality you would expect for such an entertainment product.
Uvem was established in 2002 to make it easy to acquire such a HCPC system.
